Scorsese's 'Silence' at the Oxford Catholic Chaplaincy

The Oxford University Catholic Chaplaincy will screen Martin Scorsese's acclaimed film 'Silence' this Friday (19 May) at 7.30 pm.

The film, based on the book by Shusaku Endo, tells the harrowing story of Jesuit missionaries in 17th c. Japan.

The film has been widely praised for offering a bracing and challenging portrait of faith and doubt. Actor Andrew Garfield spoke to America Magazine about how he prepared for his role in the film by immersing himself in Ignatian spirituality, even taking the Spiritual Exercises.

The screening will take place at 7:30 pm at the Chaplaincy building. All are welcome. See the week's full termcard here.
