Visiting Georgetown Artist Exhibits Work

During the past term, the Hall had the distinct pleasure of hosting Prof. John Morrell of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Prof. Morrell is a working artist specializing in watercolor landscapes; during his time in Oxford John worked on a number of on-site studies of the local environs in preparation for a larger exhibit in America in the coming months. The image (left) is one of those studies: A view of the Thames at Oxford, known as the Isis. 

Campion Visiting Music Scholar Named Maestro di Cappella in Malta

At the end of last year, the Roman Catholic church in Malta announced a new Maestro di Cappella: Hamish Dustagheer. Responsible for preparing and directing the music and choir during liturgical celebrations at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mdina and St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Hamish is also tasked with promoting liturgical music in the Archdiocese of Malta. 

Hall student awarded MSt degree

On Saturday, 6 May, 2017, Mr Travis LaCouter, a postgraduate student of theology at the Hall, was admitted to the degree of Master of Studies (with distinction) during a ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre. The purpose of the nine-month Master of Studies (MSt) degree is to offer specialist graduate education in theology for able students, and to provide training in research methods as well as general education in a chosen field of research.

Welcome to Fr Ian Tomlinson

The Hall community warmly welcomes Fr Ian Tomlinson, SJ, who has recently been appointed to the Campion Hall Jesuit community to provide support to the University's Jesuit-directed Catholic chaplaincy. Previously Director of Novices for the British Jesuit Province, and then official Assistant (Socius) to two Provincial Superiors, Ian has worked recently in Ignatian spirituality and at the Manchester Univerisities' Catholic chaplaincy.

Hall Members present papers at Munich conference

Over two days in mid-January, three members of the Hall community travelled to Munich, Germany, to participate in a conference of systematic theologians from the University of Oxford and the Ludwig-Maximilians Universität (LMU). Participants were postgraduates and junior researchers from both universities, and the gathering was presided over by Professor Dr Jörg Lauster (Institute for Systematic Theology at LMU) and Professor Wener Jeanrod (Master of St Benet's Hall, OXford).
