Campion hosts conference on the 'Common Good'

Scholars and experts recently gathered at Campion Hall to discuss competing conceptions of the common good. What is the common good? How can we promote it? What can ideas about the common good tell us about the relationship between the state and the free market? These and other questions were raised and discussed by a distinguished group of philosophers, theologians, social justice workers, and civil society leaders.

With papers exploring both the Catholic and Protestant views of the common good, business ethics, and the role of risk and property rights in the function of the common good, seminar participants enjoyed a wide-ranging and lively exchange of ideas.

As questions about the common good announce themselves with ever more urgency these days, meetings like this one are important opportunities to interrogate essential values.
