Joel Rasmussen is Associate Professor in Nineteenth-Century Christian Thought and Director of the Oxford Centre for Theology and Modern European Thought. His research interests include theology, philosophy, and religious history, with a focus on the interconnections between Christianity, European and American philosophy, and literature in modern culture. His publications include Between Irony and Witness: Kierkegaard's Poetics of Faith, Hope, And Love (New York & London: T&T Clark, 2005); "William James, A Pluralistic Universe, and the Ancient Quarrel between Philosophy and Poetry," in William James and the Transatlantic Conversation: Pragmatism, Pluralism, and Philosophy of Religion, ed. Martin Halliwell and Joel D. S. Rasmussen (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2014); and “The Transformation of Metaphysics,” in The Oxford Handbook of Nineteenth-Century Christian Thought, ed. Joel D. S. Rasmussen, Judith Wolfe, and Johannes Zachhuber (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2017). 

 

Dr. Rasmussen is currently at work on a volume entitled Christianity and the Cultures of Modernity (under contract with Princeton University Press), and is one of the editors of Kierkegaard's Journals and Notebooks (11 volumes, also Princeton University Press).
